FLASH: ‘Up to Six’ Stabbed at Jerusalem Gay Pride March

As many as six people have been stabbed by an ultra-Orthodox Jewish man at a gay pride march in Jerusalem, at least two of whom are in a serious condition, police have said.

The Guardian reports that one witness said she was speaking to one of the victims when the assailant came up behind them, pushed her to the ground, and stabbed him in the back “as if to say ‘I hate you’.”

The man then ran into the crowd and attacked more people before police brought him to the ground. She said the victims were all male.

The march is a focus of tension between secular Israelis and ultra-Orthodox Jews, who regard public displays of homosexuality as an abomination.

The march in Jerusalem is much smaller than the Pride event in Tel Aviv, which some 100,000 revellers attended this year.
