Monk Admits Telling Lesbian Witches: ‘We Used to Burn People Like You’

A monk has pleaded guilty to harassing a couple of lesbian pagans after telling them: “We used to burn people like you.”

Brother Damon Kelly of the Black Hermits, a tiny Catholic group based in the Diocese of Northampton in Britain, also admitted telling the pair their sexuality was “part of the devil’s madness”.

Leicester Magistrates Court heard that Brother Damon was posting a leaflet condemning homosexuality through the couple’s door when one of the women confronted him and tried to hand it back.

The court heard be became “aggressive and fanatical” on the doorstep and told the women: “Keep it, urinate on it, defecate on it.”

The Express says he then returned to their house two weeks later and posted a letter through their door addressed “to the witches from the monk,” which said that “witches, gays, lesbians and sex-changers” are all “the devil’s madness.”

Prosecutor Nigel Chapman said one of the women “felt she was being targeted” and she was so horrified by the letter she had heart palpitations.

Brother Damon’s lawyer, Kevin Sayce, told the court the monk never wanted to confront the women.

“He picks areas and delivers leaflets. It was one of the females that approached Damon Kelly and he defended his opinion as he’s had to on numerous occasions,” he said.

“Following their disclosures of their practice as witches, Damon Kelly returned – not to seek out a confrontation but to post the letter that put forward his beliefs on pursuing such desires and such acts. His motive, his calling, is to target the sin and not the sinner.”

Judge Tim Dauber has now adjourned the case for three weeks and released Brother Damon on bail provided he delivers no more leaflets.

The Black Hermits are currently facing expulsion from their presbytery in the Diocese of Northampton for “bringing the diocese into disrepute”.

The group consists of just two monks and one nun who travel the country handing out leaflets. The Catholic Herald says Brother Damon has previously been arrested 10 times, had water thrown on him and been pushed over in the street for handing out the leaflets, but he has refused to stop.

He told the Church Militant website: “At first I agreed to do no more leafleting. But I’ve wrestled with it, I’ve sought spiritual counsel. And I’ve decided I have to obey God’s law and not the state’s law.”
