Tim Tebow, a man of many talents and wearer of many hats, clearly likes to keep his options open. One of the doors Tebow seeks to keep open? Politics.
Discussing his new book, Shaken: Discovering Your True Identity in the Midst of Life’s Storms on FNC’s Kelly File, Tebow spoke about what inspires his decisions in life: “My goal has always been to make a difference in the biggest way possible, to be able to change as many lives as possible, to be able to encourage as many lives as possible and right now I don’t feel like that’s in politics.”
However!
“But if, one day, I feel like that’s where I’m called to go, then that’s what I’ll do. I just don’t know if that’s the right road for me yet.”
The operative word here, obviously, is “yet.” The “right road” for Tebow at this time leads through the New York Mets minor league system, a road that Tebow hopes leads to a chance to play in the major leagues. However, eventually that road will come to an end, leaving Tebow with yet another decision to make.
Recent political history involving the former Heisman winner largely centered on an invite to speak at the RNC in July, which he declined. Though, based on what he said to Kelly, his refusal to speak did not mean Tebow has completely ruled out a career in politics.
Tim Tebow has done a masterful job keeping his name in the public conversation since his NFL career ended. He has done GMA, he has a gig analyzing college football at ESPN, he has written a book, and if all that weren’t enough, he plays baseball, too. In fact, you could argue that he has a better buzz factor now than at any time since he left Denver.
If Tebow does decide to get into politics, the fact that he didn’t just fade away like some afterthought after his playing days ended will help him immensely to connect with voters.
