Police Arrest Man at Liverpool Airport In Connection With Manchester Bombing

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of terror offences Friday, nearly seven weeks after the Manchester Arena attack which saw 22 killed.

The otherwise unidentified male was arrested at Liverpool John Lennon airport, although officers did not say whetrher he was attempting to leave, or returning to the country.

The attack by Libyan-heritage University drop-out Salman Abedi killed 22 on the 22nd May, when Abedi detonated a homemade explosive device stuffed with shrapnel at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena in Central Manchester.

This latest arrest comes just one day after a spokesman for Manchester police said they did not beleive Abedi had acted alone when he detonated the bomb in the Manchester Arena. Officer Russ Jackson said at a briefing Thursday: “We do believe that there are other people potentially involved in this. We do believe further arrests are possible.

“We are currently engaging with the Crown Prosecution Service and the Libyan authorities. This is a live criminal investigation where central to it are 22 murdered people with grieving families.”

There were a number of arrests immediately after the attack, including of Abedi’s brother, but police later declared they beleived the killer had acted largely alone. The latest arrest and comments of Manchester Police suggests this is no longer the case.
