The Netherland’s Royal Military Police disabled a knife-wielding man at the capital Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport Friday afternoon.

Parts of the airport were evacuated Friday afternoon during the incident with travellers being moved to safety in the airport’s railway station. The Royal Netherlands Military Police confirmed on Twitter that the force had shot a man after he threatened people with a knife.

The shooting was not fatal, but a number of ambulances and a medical helicopter attended the scene. Police said the suspect has been detained and removed from the scene, and that the airport has now been rendered safe.

The airport has previously been the target of a fake bomb hoax in 2016, when the terminal was evacuated when a British citizen shouted several times that he was carrying explosives.
