After eighteen months of a foreign policy wedded to apology, bows and mixed signals we find ourselves alienated from our two historically strongest allies, Israel and England and losing influence with the rest of the nations whom we need to rally to our side at this time of war.
Perhaps the current strategy of deference, humility and equivocation of first principals is not all we were told it would be when then-candidate Obama spoke to screaming throngs in Berlin. Perhaps what is needed now, more than ever is a different sort of diplomatic effort best exemplified by another memorable speech delivered by a historic figure in that same German city:

Clear, plain and direct, President Reagan used soaring rhetoric not to impress and charm our adversaries, but to challenge and confront them. And it sent a clear message to our allies that America was there for them and we would not back down from the greatest challenge to freedom and liberty of that time.
Our nation, and our world, yearns for a clear and unequivocal enunciation of American values and the forthright determination to use our great strength to back those values up when our allies need us most.
Our nation yearns for another leader like Ronald Reagan.
