Beginning on February 4, 2011 the Chinese New Year will take us from the Year of the Tiger to the Year of the Rabbit. Or so says Master Ming, writing in Pravda. That means peace, love, harmony, and global reconciliation according to the Chinese tradition. As he puts it:
“The rabbit is tame and docile, as well as a year which comes full of good energy. At 12:30 pm February 4, 2011, the Chinese will celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. From this aspect, the world will have peace and prosperity. It will be a season for many crops planted and for those who struggled in 2010, a period marked by the figure of the Tiger.
In the Year of the Rabbit, the world will have more understanding and be more prone to help those less fortunate. The world economy will continue to thrive. “Grow in studies, trust yourself and act with rigor.” Slogans will be providential, since the year encourages personal growth and a good lifestyle.
In politics, the year of the Rabbit will bring diplomacy and negotiation. The growth of national economies will be slow and steady. It is a time marked by advances in medicine, both in the cure of disease and its diagnosis and prevention.”
Put me down as skeptical. I think 2011 is more likely to be the Year of the Killer Rabbit. I think a more accurate picture of the year ahead might look something like this:
We have Christians being killed in the Middle East, terrorism stalking the Western World, North Korea threatening nuclear war, and Iran quietly but efficiently developing weapons of mass destruction. And Killer Rabbits can be tough to handle, particularly for liberals. Remember when Jimmy Carter had a run-in with a “Killer Rabbit” on April 20, 1979? My fear is that President Obama may fare even worse than Carter did.
