Obama's 'Special Relationship' With….France?

Although the act was symbolic, President Obama’s decision to remove Winston Churchill’s bust from the White House revealed a great deal about his personal sentiment. Based on the background of his Kenyan father and antipathy to British colonialism, this act is understandable. What is not understandable is his belief that France is a closer ally to the US than the UK. Leave aside “the special relationship” for a moment, the UK has been our most loyal ally in the war in the Balkans as well as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. By contrast, the French government would not even permit “overfly” permission when President Reagan launched an attack against Libya. As I see it, the statement is absurd on every level…except the personal view of President Obama.
