Texas, Illegal Aliens, And The Flotilla

Why are leftists okay with terrorist-supporting Code Pink and other leftists engaging in illegalities yet they think that the legal execution of a convicted murderer will harm Americans?

Actually, that’s the wrong question. The correct question is: Why is the Right okay with terrorist-supporting Code Pink and other leftists engaging in illegalities, and why is the Right okay with leftists fighting against the legal execution of a convicted murderer?

This question gets worse when you consider what’s going on in the case of leftists supporting a murderer who is facing execution in Texas. This murderer is an illegal alien who, “. . . was convicted for the 1994 rape and murder of 16-year-old Adria Sauceda. . . .” Yet the left rallies around him because, as Chris McGreal of The Guardian puts it:

Few question that he was responsible for the killing but the Texas authorities failed to tell Leal, who was born in Mexico and has lived in the US since the age of two, that under the Vienna convention he was entitled to contact the Mexican consulate when he was arrested.

McGreal goes on to write about the reaction from the White House:

Carrying out Leal’s execution would cause “irreparable harm” to US interests abroad, the administration added.

“That breach would have serious repercussions for United States foreign relations, law-enforcement and other co-operation with Mexico, and the ability of American citizens travelling abroad to have the benefits of consular assistance in the event of detention,” it said.

I’ll let the reader formulate his own counterpoints and questions for the left on this matter with the exception of one question of my own. How would not enacting justice (through failing to execute an illegal alien murderer) affect foreign nations’ relations with the American people?

Of course, I know that my question (and any other questions in defense of justice) will not be addressed. After all, you can ignore conservative concerns and not have to worry about any consequences for doing so.

But the same is not true of ignoring leftists. Leftists will not allow you to ignore them because they will resort to violence to get what they want–and insist that they are right for doing so.

Thus, we have the latest Middle Eastern flotilla. There is no explanation for why the left’s illegal flotilla isn’t receiving the same condemnations for endangering Americans. In other words, while authorities are warning the American left not to participate in the flotilla, we don’t have a mass outcry that participating in the flotilla might damage American relations with the world and encourage other nations not to care about our laws.

What these two situations show is that when the left engages in illegalities with the flotilla, they don’t face serious repercussions for doing so–not the leftist movement, anyway. Yet when the Right tries to enact justice through the execution of an illegal alien who slaughtered an American citizen, we are somehow guilty of endangering American lives and the Right is implicitly condemned as a movement. But we all knew this was the case long ago. After all, that’s why a congressionally authorized Iraq War was said to be endangering American relations with the so-called international community while previous examples of leftists openly breaking the law also were celebrated. (Think about the absurdity that is the television show, Whale Wars.)

But the blame for this injustice falls as much on the Right as it does the left, because the Right refuses to hold the left accountable on obeying the law. (So far, Governor Rick Perry seems to be the only notable person on the Right who has said anything of significance on the flotilla.) I wrote a column a few weeks back explaining that everyone needs to know their role and know their place. And as I think about this latest outrage I ask myself: where are the conservative civilians countering the left on this? The law limits what I, and other Servicemen, can do in the political and civil realm but civilians don’t have this same restriction. This is a national security threat that if left unchecked will result in the permanent institutionalization of lawlessness where the Right is demonized and persecuted for obeying the law and wanting justice while the left can break the law and resort to violence all the while being praised for it. So if conservatives ever want the nation back, conservative civilians need to fight back now . . . before it’s too late.
