Iranian Military Experts Working in Gaza, Sinai To Target Israel

Today, Haaretz reports, “Iranian military experts are active in the Gaza Strip and in Sinai, according to a high-ranking official in Jerusalem. The official said the Iranians entered the areas via Sudan and Egypt, and added that some of the rocket-launching systems in Gaza were manufactured under Iranian supervision.” Following Israel’s killing of Zuhair al-Qaissi, the head of a Hezbollah-aligned terrorist group funded by Iran, the group claimed to have launched at least 85 rockets. Palestinian Islamic Jihad, also funded by Iran. may have launched another 185.  Israel’s government stated that of all the rockets fired from Gaza, only 8 have been non-Iranian funded.

President Obama, who has suggested that Israel return to its indefensible pre-1967 borders, has iterated his policy regarding Iran thusly: “Iran’s leaders should know that I do not have a policy of containment; I have a policy to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.” But Iran doesn’t only threaten a nuclear catastrophe for the Jewish state. Iran’s brand of low-level warfare is poised to exact a severe cost from the Israeli civilian population.

Obama is silent on this issue; what is known is that he has chastised Israel for its approach to preventing arms from reaching Gaza. In December 2010, Obama said, “There should be ways of focusing narrowly on arms shipments, rather than focusing in a blanket way on stopping everything and then in a piecemeal way allowing things into Gaza.” The White House has also offered a $400 million to Palestinians, including funding for Gaza.

Obama may well be indifferent to Israel’s survival; witness his reported quest to Prime Minister Netanyahu to refrain from attacking Iran until the 2102 elections are over. And turning a blind eye to the smaller but deadly Iranian presence in Gaza is more evidence of his indifference to Jewish lives under assault.
