J Street Regional Director: We May Not Support Israel In War

Today’s Jewish Advocate in Boston printed a letter to the editor from one Paul Sassieni. Mr. Sassieni attended an event with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston. That event included three organizations, one of which was the far-left, anti-Israel, George Soros-funded J Street. Mr. Sasseini relates:

I was shocked to hear J Street’s regional director say that in the event that war broke out involving Israel, J Street would not necessarily support the Jewish state. Incredulous, I asked her to clarify that I had heard correctly. Indeed, she reiterated proudly that J Street would not necessarily support Israel in a conflict, but would weigh the circumstances.

No one suggests that should Israel begin participating in ethnic cleansing against Palestinians, or some other such far-fetched scenario, Israel deserves support. But that situation is unthinkable and unrealistic, and holds true of every country.

Yet for J Street, Israel is a uniquely nasty country. In the view of J Street, an Israeli war against Iran requires evaluation before lending support. In a time where Israel is in grave danger from all sides, the suggestion that Israel might not deserve American support in war – from a purportedly “pro-Israel” organization, no less – is despicable.

Unfortunately, J Street is intensely close with both Media Matters for America and the Obama Administration. They were built as an alternative to the non-partisan American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which supports Israel strongly. For years, J Street has maintained that they are not anti-Israel. Now the mask has slipped.
