The Netherlands, Switzerland Expel Syrian Ambassadors

Amsterdam, May 29 (QNA) – The Netherlands has declared the Syrian ambassador persona non grata. Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal announced the decision on Tuesday in response to Friday’s bloodbath in Houla, in which more than 100 people died, almost half of them children.

The Syrian ambassador, Mohammad Ayman Jamil Soussan, who represents his country in both the Netherlands and Belgium, resides in Brussels. The decision was taken in consultation with other European Union countries, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported.

Swiss Foreign Ministry has added to diplomatic pressure on the Syrian government, declaring the Syrian ambassador to Switzerland “persona non grata”. The Syrian ambassador to Switzerland, Lamia Chakkour, is based in Paris.

On Friday, 108 people were killed In the central Syrian city of Houla. Among the dead were 49 children and 34 women. Residents of the city told UN observers that most of them were summarily execution by pro-government militias. (QNA)
