Kidnapped Libya Olympic president free

TRIPOLI, Libya, July 22 (UPI) —
The president of the Libyan Olympic Committee was free Sunday after being kidnapped in Tripoli a week earlier, the government said.

The Libyan state news agency said Ahmad Nabil al-Alam was debriefed by security officials who are still unsure who the kidnappers were or what their motivation was.

Al-Alam had been set to lead the Libyan team to the London Olympics, which begin this week, when he was grabbed July 15 in central Tripoli by unidentified gunmen.

CNN said Al-Alam was described earlier by the Libyan Olympic Committee as being an active participant in the revolt that toppled strongman Moammar Gadhafi.
