Breakfast With Mahmoud

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met with the American media Monday morning, and as usual, made statements reflecting his rabid anti-Semitism, his bellicosity, and his denial of history:

Who is it who determines what the U.S. government must do? Is it the Zionists…? The U.S. government must make such vital decisions under the influence of Zionists?

His bluster continued when he was asked about Prime Minister Netanyahu’s request for red lines that Iran should not cross in its attempt to produce nuclear weapons, saying the request ” … should be seen as a great insult and taken as such by the people of the United States. Who are these Zionists to dictate to the U.S.? … the Zionists see themselves at a dead end.”

He called the United States a country where “double standards” meant “insulting a divine figure,” revealing that he denies the concept of free speech. He claimed that “you cannot even question historical events,” implying that the Holocaust never happened.

When the religious fatwa calling for the death of Salman Rushdie came up, Ahmadinejad demanded, “Where is he now?” When he was told Rushdie lives in New York, Ahmadinejad threatened, “Is he in the U.S.?… You shouldn’t broadcast this for his own safety.”

But his denial of history was the most evil and frightening:

Iran has been around for the last 7,000, 10,000 years. They [the Israelis] have been occupying those territories for the last 60 to 70 years, with the support and force of the Westerners. They have no roots there in history … we don’t even count them as any part of any equation for Iran. During a historical phase, they [the Israelis] represent minimal disturbances that come into the picture and are then eliminated.

When statements are made that expect the State of Israel to be eliminated, is it any wonder that Ahmadinejad is correctly seen as a spiritual disciple of Adolf Hitler, and the need for a confrontation with Iran becomes crystal-clear?
