Palestinian President Abbas Delivers Vitriolic Anti-Israel UN Screed

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas took to the podium at the UN General Assembly today and proceeded to blast Israel as an “occupier” and a human rights violator. He accused Israel of racism against Arabs – an absurd charge, considering that Arabs in Israel enjoy far more rights than Arabs under Palestinian rule – and claimed that Israel rejected the possibility of a Palestinian state, a position even more absurd given Israel’s repeated territorial concessions to the Palestinian Arabs.

His language was as full of bluster and lies as usual. He warned of “the catastrophic danger of the racist Israeli settlement of our country, Palestine.” He suggested that there are roving and widespread “terrorist militias of Israeli settlers.” He pretended that Palestinians were “facing relentless waves of attacks against our people, our mosques, churches and monasteries, and our homes and schools; they are unleashing their venom against our trees, fields, crops and properties, and our people have become fixed targets for acts of killing and abuse with the complete collusion of the occupying forces and the Israeli Government.” Never mind Hamas. Never mind continued Palestinian terror attacks. Never mind political corruption, teaching of anti-Semitism, and perverse reversal of morality in the Palestinian Authority. The problem, said Abbas, was the Jews.

He essentially claimed that Jerusalem was not really a Jewish city. And he said that Israel – Israel! – had rejected the two-state solution.

It was a speech of fantasy. It was a speech of falsehoods. And it was good evidence that no time in the near future will the Palestinian Arabs be ready to accept a real solution to the Arab-Israel conflict.
