Report: Kim Jong Un to Try Market Economy for North Korea

A report indicates Kim Jong Un is taking the reins of North Korea’s economy away from the military, reversing the direction in which his father took the country for decades.

According to the report, economic control has been taken from Military Chief Ri Yong Ho, so Mr. Kim and his uncle, Jang Song-thaek, can develop new economic opportunities for the floundering nation. They have created a “political bureau” assigned with the task of severing any remaining economic ties from the 1.2 million strong North Korean military.

In August of this year, Song-thaek traveled to China to discuss economic opportunities with leaders there. As a result, the government in Beijing promised to help North Korea develop two trades zones near the Chinese border.
