During the VP debate, Joe Biden tried to prove he knew more about foreign policy than Congressman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) by going into great detail about the Obama administration’s approach to Syria. The problem is, what he said might be construed to mean the U.S. is actively training forces withing Syria to fight.
Ryan claimed the Obama administration wastes a lot of time and loses a lot momentum by going through the U.N. on situations like Syria’s current civil war. The Vice President tried to counter him by denying the Obama administration has gone through the U.N.
Biden boasted: “We are in the process now and have been for months in making sure that help, humanitarian aid, as well as other aid and training, is getting to those forces that we believe, the Turks believe, the Jordanians believe, the Saudis believe are the free forces inside of Syria.”
The key in all this is Biden’s claim that we’ve spent months “training” the anti-Assad rebels of Syria.
Is the U.S. doing that training? If not, who, and how are we helping whichever country it may be?
