Democrats are defending the Obama administration’s conflicting explanation for what they knew and when they knew it regarding Libya.
More often than not, this means they are excusing the administration’s failure to immediately refer to the Sept. 11 attack on the Benghazi consulate as terrorism, based on a claim that intelligence did not immediately do so.
According to Rep. James McGovern (D-Mass.), “The administration relies on information that it sees. It’s not about bungling the response, it’s about getting the information as it comes in. And as the investigation goes on, they learn different things.” This is similar to what VP Joe Biden said when he claimed, “The intelligence community told us that [the video sparked the attack], and as they learned more facts about what happened they changed their assessment.”
The problem with McGovern and Biden’s claims is that Sec. of State Clinton’s aide Patrick Kennedy described the attack as terrorism within 24 hours of its occurrence. And this is why Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan is asking why it “took the president two weeks to acknowledge this was a terrorist attack”?
In the Oct. 11 VP debate Ryan pointed out that Obama blamed the attack on a YouTube video six times during his speech to the U.N. on Sept. 25.
If Clinton’s aides knew it was terrorism within 24 hours, why didn’t Obama/Biden?
