Report: Obama to Release Terror Financier After Election

Reports coming out of Colombia indicate President Obama is planning to release Simon Trinidad following the Nov. 6 presidential elections.

Trinidad, whose real name is Richard Palmera, is currently serving time for his financial ties to the Colombia insurgent terrorist group the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). 

FARC “is responsible for thousands of kidnappings and murders in Colombia, including businessmen, politicians, women, children,” and Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt. 

Trinidad caught the attention of the American justice system when FARC guerrillas shot down a single-engine plane carrying Americans in Colombia in 2003. Three Americans who lived through the crash were held as hostages and tortured by Trinidad’s orders. 

He is now serving a 60-year sentence in the U.S.

Nonetheless, reports indicate the Obama admin and Colombian officials are in “advanced” talks to have Trinidad transferred to Colombia. If this happens, he is expected to receive a “reprieve of his past crimes” and will be able to pick up right where he left off before he was extradited to the U.S. in 2004.
