Russian blogs are announcing that Putin may be in trouble. He has been noticeably absent from recent affairs and the only answer officials give when asked of his whereabouts is, “He is fine.”
Rumors of an illness abounded after the Russian leader canceled a number of engagements over the past few weeks. To quell suspicions, he appeared in public on November 4 for the National Unity holiday in Russia. At that time he walked slowly “but did not require assistance.”
A Russian newspaper suggested he had injured himself while leading a group of rare cranes on the first leg of their migration via a motorized hang-glider in September. A Putin spokesman denied the claim, but Putin’s press secretary seemed to admit the possibility: “Any sportsman has a lot of injuries, especially if he plays sport actively and every day like Putin.”
There are currently unconfirmed reports of ambulances in major streets in Moscow and helicopters on the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation Building (FSB).
