In a meeting Friday, Muslim Brotherhood “Iron Man” Khairat Al-Shater voiced support for “the resistance” in Gaza, but made it clear he did not want war between Egypt and Israel.
To avoid that war, Al-Shater would not commit to supplying “the resistance” with weapons or funding.
He said Egypt’s economic climate at this time would make war with Israel detrimental, and such a war may be triggered by openly assisting those associated with Hamas in Gaza.
The meeting adjourned with Al-Shater saying the Muslim Brotherhood would commit to supplying “the resistance” with humanitarian supplies, but nothing beyond that. All decisions beyond humanitarian aid were passed to Mohamed Morsi’s office with the understanding that the Egyptian president will monitor developments on the ground and make decisions regarding further assistance accordingly.
