Turkish PM: We Stand with Our Brothers in Gaza

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is accusing Israel of striking Hamas as part of a pre-election stunt and he’s promising to try to get Egypt’s President Morsi involved this weekend.

Erdogan was to speak with U.S. President Obama about the strikes on Friday.

The U.S. says it has asked both Turkey and Egypt to help discourage Hamas from firing more rockets into Israel, an action the U.S. sees as perpetuating the conflict. But Erdogan does not agree with the U.S. approach. Rather, he believes Israel has incited the conflict and that’s the message he’s taking to Morsi.

Erdogan claims Israel “shot…innocent people in Gaza for reasons they fabricated.”

Therefore, far from discouraging Hamas from firing rockets, Erdogan said, “the Republic of Turkey stands with our brothers in Gaza and their just cause.”
