Christian Advocates Ask State Dept. to Designate Boko Haram a Terrorist Org

Alliance Defending Freedom has sent a letter to Hillary Clinton asking the State Dept. to designate Boko Haram a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) so the U.S. can check the group’s expansion and terror activities.

As reported earlier, Boko Haram is a Nigerian-based Islamic group that has killed 3,000 people since 2009, most of whom were Christians. The group brags of its ties to Al Qaeda and has explicitly listed the United States and President Obama as “infidels” to whom it is sending a message.

In the press release for their letter, Alliance Defending Freedom points out that Boko Haram “called for the religious cleansing and genocide of Christians in northern Nigeria” earlier this year. And from the time those calls went out, the group has done their utmost to fulfill their own demands.

Christians are regularly (and brutally) murdered and tortured at the hands of a group whose very name, Boko Haram, means “Western education is a sin.”

The State Dept. has certain criteria a group must meet to merit the FTO designation; Boko Haram meets them all.

The quicker they can be designated a FTO, the quicker the U.S. can start freezing the group’s financial assets and compiling watch lists of group members and associates, among other steps.
