Egyptian Islamist Throws Tantrum: Embrace Morsi or We'll Riot

An Islamist leader who embraced the protests that ousted Hosni Mubarak and opened the door for Mohamed Morsi is now stomping his feet and raising his fist in anger over the thought that the current protests might result in ousting Morsi.

Saeed Abdel-Azim warns: “If secularists try to topple Morsi or storm the presidential palace, we will not stand still.”

He went on to say that he and his followers “will organize a massive Islamic revolution in Egypt involving unprecedented numbers” if need be.

This outburst seems to have been triggered by the fact that Morsi renounced his Nov. 22 power grab in the face of mounting pressure from protesters. Azim supported that power grab because he thought excluding the president from judicial oversight would have freed Morsi up to do the work that needs to be done.

He is now upset, and is certain the U.S. is funding the protesters opposed to Morsi.

It appears that for this Islamist leader democracy is simple — do things his way or else.
