Analysts: World's Population to Drop Soon

The Malthusian prediction from more than two hundred years ago that the world’s population would continue growing unchecked until the world starved from overpopulation is now proving false. Now experts are claiming that within the lifetime of most people now living, the world’s population will begin to diminish.

From 1950 to 2012, the world’s population skyrocketed from 2.5 billion to roughly 7 billion, but the advances in health allowing more babies to survive has allowed a countervailing narrative to be spun–that large families are not needed to ensure a family’s survival.

Japan and Russia are already declining in population; Western Europe is not even reaching the replacement level of 2.1 births per woman. The U.S. is still growing, but the birthrate is at its lowest level ever.

The Malthusian theory has been the driving narrative for leftist agendas for too long; now that some evidence of its fallacy has leaked, the philosophical ground in which the left stands has been yanked out from beneath them.
