When Sec. of State Hillary Clinton appeared before a Congressional panel for questions regarding Benghazi on Jan. 23, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) questioned why Marine guards had not been posted to the consulate, while Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) accused her of letting the consulate become “a death trap.”
Wilson asked why Marine guards weren’t “posted at Benghazi in the first place?”; Clinton responded that Marine guards “historically” guard documents, not personnel. To this Wilson pointed out that requests for “enhanced security” were denied.
Wilson also asked Hillary why she didn’t go on Sunday morning news shows herself and spare Americans the misinformation debacle that UN Ambassador Susan Rice caused: “Since you managed the response to the Benghazi attack, why weren’t you the person to appear on the Sunday shows immediately following the attack. Ambassador Susan Rice says you declined, is that correct?”
Hillary responded by saying she doesn’t do Sunday morning TV–that she hasn’t for over a year–and that she had better things to do on Sunday mornings. She said she had “a lot she to manage and… respond to” at that time, and she thought handling those things ought to be her “priority.”
To this Wilson responded: “I believe that part of the priority is telling correct information, and you could have done that.”
Rep. Duncan excoriated Clinton for her comments to the Senate earlier Wednesday morning in which she asked, “What difference at this point does it make?” in response to questions about the White House initially blaming the attack on an anti-Islam video on YouTube.
“I’ll tell you what difference it makes. It makes a difference when Americans think they were misled about something for political reasons,” he responded.
