Hezbollah Leader Nasrallah Rumored to Be in Iran for Cancer Treatment

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hasan Nasrallah, 52, has reportedly been flown to Tehran, Iran for treatment of cancer, according to the Turkish Anatolia News Agency. Last week the agency quoted “knowledgeable sources affiliated with Hezbollah” about Nasrallah’s health. The report stated that Nasrallah became ill in the last week, went to a hospital in Beirut, and later was flown to Iran.

It isn’t only the Turkish media reporting Nasrallah’s flight to Iran; many Lebanese media outlets have reported that Nasrallah’s cancer forced him to be treated in Iran.

Hezbollah denied the rumors in an interview with the Al Mayadeen satellite network.

But Lebanon’s Sawt Beirut International radio station, which associates with Hezbollah’s opponents, said it had learned from sources “close” to Hezbollah that Nasrallah had cancer and he was getting worse. Sawt Beirut also stated that Nasrallah, 52, took a plane provided by the Iranian presidency.

A Jordanian media outlet said Nasrallah may have been injured when the Free Syrian Army bombed Hezbollah positions. Nasrallah’s last appearance was at “Shahid Day” ten days ago.
