The White House is calling on Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s government to intervene and stop the growing number of sexual attacks and gang rapes that are taking place during anti-Morsi rallies.
Speaking on March 29, White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest said:
Sexual violence, including gang rape, has occurred during demonstrations in Egypt, and this is a cause of great concern to the United States, the international community, and to many Egyptians… the Egyptian government has a responsibility to take legal measures to prevent sexual violence and to prosecute people who are involved in such crimes.
No indications were given for how long these attack have been going on. But as far back as Dec. 2012, Breitbart News reported that the Muslim Brotherhood was allegedly paying thugs to beat up male anti-Morsi protesters and to “sexually assault women.”
