In Wake of Obama Middle East Visit, Hamas Hooks Up With Egypt

In an ironic move, Hamas Prime Minister in Gaza Ismail Haniyeh, politburo chief Khaled Mashaal Haniyeh, and other Hamas officials are going to Cairo to complain about alleged Israeli violations of the Pillar of Defense truce between Israel and Hamas. This follows a Shin Bet report released Wednesday that asserts Hamas interior minister Fathi Hamad has been violating the truce himself, masterminding terror attacks against Israel from within Judea and Samaria.

A Hamas terror cell arrested recently in the Ramallah area admitted complicity with close associates of Hamad’s close associates and were preparing attacks with explosive devices and rockets. They also revealed they had received instructions to kidnap an Israeli soldier, take his ID and cell phone so they could negotiate with the IDF, kill and bury the soldier secretly  in a secret location.

Hamas spokesman Taher al-Nunu said Haniyeh would be discussing “the problem of (Palestinian) prisoners (held by Israel) and Hamas-Egypt relations” as well as a possible rapprochement between Hamas and Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah.

Hamas and the government of Egypt have had strained relations since the Egyptian army shut down dozens of smuggling tunnels on the Gaza border and the murderous attack on Egyptian soldiers that was suspected to be organized by Hamas.
