Gomez Calls on State Department to Release Rules of Engagement for Libya

Gabriel Gomez, the Republican nominee in the June 25th Massachusetts special Senate election, told Boston radio talk show host Howie Carr on Wednesday that he will “absolutely” call on the State Department to release the State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya.

Carr: If you are elected to the Senate, will you insist that the State Department release the State Department Rules of Engagement [for Libya] document which may well contain former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s signature?

Gomez: Absolutely. The American people deserve answers on this… That will be a focus of mine when I get down to D.C. 

Later in the interview, Gomez restated his call for the State Department to release the State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya, adding that “we definitely need to get to the bottom of what happened at Benghazi.”

In the days following the September 11, 2012 attack on the American mission in Benghazi in which four Americans were killed, Colonel David Hunt told Breitbart News: 

[N]ew State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya, approved and signed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton since the 2011 fall of Khadafi’s regime, severely compromised the safety and security of murdered Ambassador Stevens and all American diplomatic staff in Libya.

Hunt added that “the decision not to staff Benghazi with Marines was made by Secretary of State Clinton when she attached her signature to the State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya document.”

Breitbart News filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the State Department in September to receive a copy of the State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya, but has so far been stonewalled. The official response has been that these requests take several months to process.
