Thousands of Walter Reed Employees to Be Furloughed due to Sequester

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has announced it will be forced to furlough thousands of civilian employees this summer due to the sequester, while President Obama and the first family are planning to take a vacation to Africa that may cost as much $100 million.

According to Fox News, the furloughs are for a period of 11 days “without pay.”

Already, 2,400 workers have been notified that they will need to take the days off due to “extraordinary and serious budget challenges.”

Is it not possible that Obama and the first family could forego their African trip so that some of the $60 to $100 million that would have been spent on it can be spent to guarantee our wounded soldiers see no interruption in the care they need?

Rep. George Holding (R-NC) weighed in, saying, “It is no secret that we need to rein in government spending, and the Obama administration has regularly and repeatedly shown a lack of judgment for when and where to make cuts.”

“The American people have had enough of the frivolous and careless spending,” he said.
