Palin Opposes Syria Intervention: 'Let Allah Sort Syria Out'

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Tea Party Republicans led the charge against President Barack Obama’s intention to use military force against Syria. Obama announced on Saturday that though he has decided military action was needed, he would first seek congressional authorization.

Palin simply said Obama should let “Allah sort it out,” using a line she has used before on the Middle East. In a blistering Facebook note on Friday, Palin wrote, “So we’re bombing Syria because Syria is bombing Syria? And I’m the idiot?” 

“President Obama wants America involved in Syria’s civil war pitting the antagonistic Assad regime against equally antagonistic Al Qaeda affiliated rebels,” she wrote. “But he’s not quite sure which side is doing what, what the ultimate end game is, or even whose side we should be on. Haven’t we learned? WAGs don’t work in war.”

After writing that “our allies in Britain” have already said “no” to military strikes against Syria, Palin said “the American people overwhelmingly agree, and the wisdom of the people must be heeded.”

Rep. Scott Rigell (R-VA) sent a letter to President Barack Obama demanding that Congress have a say, and it has “gathered 140 signatures – a third of all House members – including 21 Democrats,” according to The Hill. 

As The Hill reports, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said Obama was merely interested in “saving face” and that was not “enough reason to go to war.” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said it was “unacceptable” that the British Parliament would vote on the matter before Congress. 

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) tweeted, “Why don’t Pres Obama & leaders in Washington want Congress to vote on attacking Syria? Because the vote would fail.”

Palin noted America “didn’t intervene when over 100,000 Syrians were tragically slaughtered by various means, but we’ll now intervene to avenge the tragic deaths of over 1,000 Syrians killed by chemical weapons” and noted that punishing “evil acts in the form of a telegraphed air strike on Syria” will not be a deterrent, especially since “our invasion of Iraq wasn’t enough of a deterrent to stop evil men from using chemical weapons on their own people.”

She slammed Obama for giving Syrian dictator Assad “enough of a heads-up that he’s reportedly already placing human shields at targeted sites” and again emphasized, “We have no clear mission in Syria. There’s no explanation of what vital American interests are at stake there today amidst yet another centuries-old internal struggle between violent radical Islamists and a murderous dictatorial regime, and we have no business getting involved anywhere without one.”

“Bottom line is that this is about President Obama saving political face because of his ‘red line’ promise regarding chemical weapons,” Palin said.

Eventually, after reportedly much indecision, Obama decided he would seek congressional authorization even though he said he believes he had “he authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization.”
