PHOTO: Kerrys Have Dinner with Assad in 2009

In February 2009, then-Senator John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz, had a romantic dinner with Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad and his wife. The picture of the dinner has now come to light. In it, Kerry leans in to talk to an engrossed Assad, as a waiter carrying lemon and crushed mint waits by the table. The restaurant is Naranj in Damascus. Kerry visited Syria to talk about a regional peace deal. This week, Kerry labeled Assad among the dictators “Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein,” as well as a “thug and murderer.”
