Kerry: Won't Take 'Boots on the Ground' Off Table for Syria

Speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, Secretary of State John Kerry claimed President Barack Obama did not want to take the country to war in Syria.

“President Obama is not asking America to go to war,” Kerry said, noting the debate was not about Obama’s red line but that of Congress and the world.

On Saturday, Obama said he felt American should use military force in Syria, but said he would first seek congressional approval.

Kerry said Obama did not intend to put “boots on the ground” in Syria, but later testified that he did not want to take that option off the table in case chemical weapons stashes needed to be secure.
