WH Chief of Staff: 'I Have Every Confidence' We'll Get Authorization

White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said he believed President Barack Obama would get congressional authorization to use military force in Syria on CBS’s Face The Nation Sunday

“I have every confidence we’ll be able to get this,” McDonough said. “Because having seen the intelligence, I believe Congress will want to support the resolution,”

McDonough said Syria was not Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya and that military action would be limited. He said Obama opposed Iraq because he thought the country was not prepared for the consequences and the cost.

He emphasized that he felt Congress will want to hold the “Assad regime to account” and prevent the Iranians and Hezbollah from having “greater operating space.”
