***UPDATE: The media is reporting that Putin is demanding America renounces air strikes before Syria will agree to turn over its chemical weapons:

Meanwhile, many in the media are currently hailing Obama as a genius for finding this diplomatic solution.
Those who believe that Russia saying yes to Secretary of State John Kerry’s blunder of an offer Monday is nothing more than Vladmir Putin checkmating President Obama into a humiliating diplomatic corner, now have even more reason to believe that. Tuesday, President Obama reversed course and accepted a United Nations proposal on Syria. According to France’s foreign minister, Russia is already balking at a UN proposal to control Syria’s chemical weapons:
As I understood, the Russians at this stage were not necessarily enthusiastic, and I’m using euphemism, to put all that into the framework of a U.N. binding resolution,” Laurent Fabius told French lawmakers after a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Many believe that John Kerry’s blunder only allowed Russia and Syria to stall and undermine Obama’s push for airstrikes. Syria is a strong ally of Russia’s and the last thing Putin wants is to see Syrian president Bashir al-Assad removed from power at the hands of American airstrikes that could benefit the rebels in the ongoing civil war.
Apparently, Russia is already slowing down and confusing things by threatening to use its United Nations veto power to oppose a “binding resolution” that would take Syria’s chemical weapons away from Assad.
Meanwhile, Syrian president Bashir al-Assad is apparently emboldened enough by Obama’s latest reversal to resume airstrikes against the rebels.
