Susan Rice: Syria's Chemical Weapons Put Americans at Risk

On Monday, National Security Advisor Susan Rice made the case that the United States needed to intervene in Syria to prevent chemical weapons from being used against Americans at home.

Similar to the “mushroom cloud” argument then-National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice made in the lead-up to the Iraq war, Rice said not engaging in Syria would put Americans “at risk abroad and at home.” She referred to Americans and diplomats who may be victims of chemical attacks abroad and terrorists who could obtain Assad’s chemical weapons and use them against Americans at home.

Rice also made the case that a failure to act in Syria would would embolden Iran and North Korea and make Israelis and Palestinians vulnerable to “Assad’s indiscriminate use of chemical weapons.”
