11 Firefighters Spend 5+ Hours Lifting Elk Out of Empty Swimming Pool

SIGGERUD, Norway, Nov. 11 (UPI) — Emergency responders in Norway said it took 11 firefighters more than 5 hours to lift a 330-pound elk out of an empty swimming pool.

Officials said the firefighters were called to a home in Siggerud, south of Oslo, on a report of an elk trapped in an empty pool and they brought along three fire engines and an animal accident official for advice, TheLocal.no reported Monday.

The rescue was put on hold for a time while firefighters attempted to get a veterinarian to visit the scene and give the young animal a cursory examination, but they eventually decided to proceed without a vet.

The elk was tranquilized and ensnared in a net. The firefighters then lifted it out of the pool with the net.

The elk was last seen heading toward the forest.
