Obama to Write Letter to Afghan People Admitting 'Mistakes' During 'War on Terror'

U.S. officials and their Afghan counterparts have reached a tentative security agreement which includes a letter, penned by President Obama, admitting ‘mistakes’ during the ‘War on Terror.’

Fox News quoted Reuters on November 19th as saying “an Afghan spokesman said…Obama agreed to write the letter.”

The New York Times reported the idea of the letter was originally proposed to Afghan President Hamid Karzai by Secretary of State John Kerry.

With the letter, the Afghan government agrees to allow the U.S. to conduct “raids on Afghan homes in certain circumstances, which had been an area of disagreement.”

Another area of disagreement concerns a provision that says “U.S. forces staying in Afghanistan beyond 2014 cannot be tried in local courts for any crimes they commit.”

If the tentative agreement is accepted by all parties involved, “U.S. troops will have sole control over Bagram Air Field, north of Kabul, but will share facilities on eight Afghan-run bases throughout the country.”
