Obama Defends Iran Deal at Hanukkah Celebration

At a December 5 Hanukkah reception President Obama defended his nuclear deal with Iran.

According to an AFP report, Obama told Israeli diplomats: “For the first time in a decade we’ve halted progress of Iran’s nuclear program.”

Obama told the gathered diplomats that the deal is “good for the world” and “good for Israel.” It limits existing sanctions against Iran in exchange for a “freeze” on certain aspects of their nuclear program.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been very critical of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the U.S. Moreover, senators from Obama’s own party have threatened to pass even tougher sanctions in light of the agreement between the administration and Iran.
