Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood to Open TV Station in Turkey

Today’s Zaman, a news outlet devoted to Turkey, reported Saturday that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood is planning to start its own Islamist television station in Turkey. The station will be named Rabia, a name commonly used among Islamists to refer to the public square in Egypt that became a Muslim Brotherhood symbol of resistance to the military ouster of President Mohammed Morsi. The Islamist station’s motto will be “the pulse of freedom.

The announcement was released by the Egyptian anti-government National Alliance on Facebook. Today’s Zaman said that the establishment of the Islamist station in Turkey would cause a greater rift between the Islamist government of Turkey and the Egyptian military government. Egypt already believes that the move by the Brotherhood is secretly supported by Turkish intelligence.
