PARIS, Dec. 26 (UPI) — An Italian man was arrested in Paris after he allegedly drove a vehicle into the gates of the French president’s Elysee Palace on Thursday, officials said.

The man drove his vehicle at a low speed and lightly stuck the palace gates, Radio France Internationale reported. He was arrested immediately after the incident.

The man told police he was a theater director and that he was protesting the lack of grants available for theater directors, a police official said, adding that it was unclear whether the man’s claim was true.
