Following Obama’s January 13th announcement that the nuclear deal with Iran has been finalized, the Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI) said President Obama is “tough in confronting the pro-Israel majority in Congress” but not so when dealing with Iran.
According to The Weekly Standard, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is also standing against the pro-Israel majority and “holding up the vote on new sanctions at the urging of President Obama.”
ECI is urging Reid to allow a vote on the sanctions bill sponsored by Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Mark Kirk (R-IL). They believe such a vote will guarantee that “the interests America and our allies are not subordinated to the political interests of the Obama White House.”
On January 12th ECI reported that Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister described the nuclear deal as impotent and as one that allows Iran to “return to the previous situation within a day.”
