Soldier Posts Selfie of Her Hiding to Avoid Flag Salute

FORT CARSON, Colo., Feb. 26 (UPI) — Authorities at Fort Carson in Colorado say they are “looking into” a “selfie” sent by a soldier apparently showing her hiding in a car to avoid a flag salute.

The self-photographed picture posted on Instagram by Pfc. Tariqka Sheffey of the 59th Quartermaster Company has gone viral, inspiring outraged responses, Army Times reported. On Tuesday, she posted a video that suggested she is unhappy with the response but fell short of an apology.

“The chain of command is aware and looking into the situation,” Dee McNutt, a military spokeswoman at Fort Carson said. “That’s really all I can say at this point.”

McNutt said Fort Carson had gotten complaints about the original picture.

“I seriously just want to say thank you to everybody who stood up to me today, like seriously,” Sheffey said Tuesday via Instagram. “That s— to me was not that serious. I am not a disrespectful soldier and I really appreciate you all.”
