Israel Releases Full Report on Iranian Weapons Ship

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released the first photographs of the full weapons cargo of the Klos C, the ship seized by Israeli naval commandos in the Red Sea last Tuesday en route from Iran to Sudan, with advanced missiles and other weapons destined for smuggling to terrorists in Hamas-controlled Gaza. Tweeting under the hashtag “#IranFail”, the IDF showed an array of Syrian M-302 surface-to-surface missiles at the port of Eilat.

The final tally of weapons was 40 missiles, 181 mortar shells, and 400,000 rounds of ammunition, according to the IDF. The weapons were hidden in the cargo of the ship among civilian goods, including cement labeled as being from Iran. Israel has been criticized frequently for stopping the direct shipment of civilian goods by sea into Gaza precisely because of fears that such shipments would be used to smuggle deadly weapons to terrorists.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu challenged Catherine Ashton, the lead negotiator for the European Union in nuclear talks with Iran, urging her to raise the subject of illegal Iranian arms. Ashton, who donned a hijab for meeting with Iranian representatives in Tehran, was not reported to have raised the subject. Israel sees Iran’s support for terror across the region as inseparable from concerns about its nuclear aspirations.
