Australian Groomsmen Take Break from Wedding Photos to Rescue Fisherman in Capsized Boat

QUEENSLAND, Australia, May 9 (UPI) — Two groomsmen taking photos as part of an Australian wedding celebration took a break so they could rescue a local fisherman after his boat capsized.

Dougal “Doogs” Grey and Clayton “Deani” Deane were busy posing after the wedding of Aaron and Jo-Anne Easterbrook when the wedding videographer noticed that something was happening in the water behind them.

“During our shoot the videographer turned around and said ‘What happened there?'” Mrs. Easterbrook told the Cairns Post. “Up goes this boat and over it turns. We were looking around to see if everything was OK.”

Grey and Deane ditched their tuxes and dove into the water to help them man.

“They helped the guy then went back to get the boat and outboard motor, and all the other bits and pieces that were in the boat like fuel containers and tackle boxes,” Easterbrook said. “The fisherman wasn’t in the water for very long, he was still afloat and conscious. I think he was a bit shocked … exhausted but grateful.”

After the fisherman was safe and all his gear was collected, Grey and Deane returned to finish up with the wedding photos. “It was one we definitely had a good laugh about at the reception,”
