Gunmen identifying as members of Ukraine’s National Guard opened fire on a group of voters in Krasnoarmeisk in Donetsk Oblast. The people were voting in a referendum on the sovereignty of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) before the Guard gunmen closed the polls.

There is confirmation of one dead and one wounded. No one knows for sure if either number will go up. Freelance photographer Petr Shelomovskiy was one of the many journalists in the city when the shooting occurred. He tweeted out that the journalists were helping with first aid kits and found 7.62mm shells on the ground.

Other journalists captured the attack in pictures and videos. It appears the gunmen initially shot warning shots in the air.
