Mother of Marine Held In Mexico Describes Situation as 'Worse Than Afghanistan'

The mother of Andrew Tahmooressi–the U.S. Marine being held in a Mexican jail for crossing the border with guns in his truck–says the situation “is worse than Afghanistan.”

Tahmooressi served two tours in Afghanistan.

According to Fox News, Tahmooressi “faces up to 21 years in prison and has already lost more than 20 pounds since being arrested on March 31.” He is being held at El Hongo Federal Penitentiary.

The arrest follow a check at border crossing “after border inspectors found three legally purchased and registered weapons in his truck.” Tahmooressi claims he reached the border by accident because of “a wrong turn at the poorly-marked crossing.”

His mother, Jill Tahmooressi, said, “He was in the town of San Ysidro and you think you’re getting on I-5 but you’re actually driving to a point of no return.”

She added: “We have a decorated Marine being held in a Mexican prison for no reason. By far this is worse than Afghanistan. At least he was in Afghanistan by choice, proud and honored. Now he is being held captive under inhumane conditions.”
