Just one day following Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei’s pledge to destroy America through “battle” and “jihad,” a top Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander has reiterated his Ayatollah’s sentiments.
According to Iranian state-controlled Fars News agency, IRGC Brigadier General Hossein Salami said the United States dominance in world affairs as a global hegemon is over.
Speaking at a ceremony in Tehran, Salami said, “the US Empire in the world is coming to an end.”
Salami said Iran will always have the upper hand as an Islamic state: “Any enemy plot will entail an unexpected ending for him, and this is due to the Iranian nation’s reliance on religious and Islamic beliefs.” The commander continued, “The [Islamic] revolution has changed the balance of power to such an extent that no security and political equation in the Muslim world is possible without winning Iran’s satisfaction.”
The Brigadier General claimed that President Obama did not publicly announce his trip to Afghanistan earlier in the week because he was afraid Afghanistan President Karzai would refuse to meet with him. “Thats why Obama secretly and without the prior information of Karzai appeared in Bagram,” said the jihadist.
Along with his hatred for America, Mr. Salami wants to “annihilate” the State of Israel. In March, he said at a conference, “The answer is that the religion of Islam has designated this for us – this goal, this motivation, this belief, this energy – so that we, here, can muster all our energies in order to annihilate the Zionist entity, more than 1,400 kilometers away. We are ready for that moment in the future.”
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard was formed after the 1979 Islamic Revolution that installed an Islamic theocracy in Iran. The IRGC’s main purpose is to advance Iran’s drive towards a global Shiite Islamic caliphate through military means. They also serve as an internal guard to quell protests and eliminate dissent. Their ruthless methods became visible through their brutal suppression of the 2009 Iranian “Green Movement.”
