South African authorities arrested a man for stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s new lover then cutting open his heart and eating it. The cannibalistic assailant reportedly ate the victim’s heart using a knife and fork as utensils.
The suspect is a Zimbabwean national.
Police said the 62-year-old victim suffered stab wounds in the neck and chest area and also had bite marks on his face.
The local South African deputy police commissioner said that “it was very gruesome” and reported, “It’s definitely a love triangle.”
A Cape Town spokesman said of the crime, “On the scene they found a suspect, a Zimbabwean national, busy eating the heart of a human with a knife and fork.”
A neighbor said, “The whole situation was crazy. We were shouting at him to stop, but he did not listen. Even when the police got here… The guys were scared to go in. They had to call for back-up. You can’t really blame them – how do you go into a room with someone [with another person’s blood dripping out of his mouth]?”
